That's correct. It's my Kaama Edition 38KV.

N/A 598"/750's and SSM#6's.

Here are a few more pics from the same poker run. :)

phughes69 08-15-2007 11:00 AM

:D Holy cow you put 598's in it with SSM 6's. What is your top speed now? That is a huge step up from 454's with TRS. Any pictures of the conversion or at least what it looks like now?

cougarman 08-15-2007 11:06 AM

Very nice, lets see some pics of the hardware.

Hi Pat,

Yep that’s a pretty big step for sure, but it was definitely worth it. The old Scarab acts like a new boat and really came to life.
I run 80 at the moment, but I think I can push it to 85 with new propellers. I’m 400-500 rpm short @WOT.

I was thinking of starting a thread about the conversion last year, but I’ve been to busy with other stuff.

BTW, Here are two video clips from last Saturday.

Thanks Jon!

Here are a few pics from the re-rigging.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET........................ .....

Looks really good, nice job on the re-rig

That is got to be one of the coolest set-ups I have seen on a Scarab.

kaama82 08-15-2007 04:57 PM

I guess I spoke to soon. Thanks, Looks great.

kaama82 08-15-2007 04:58 PM

I take it, you had somebody do the work for you?????

Dave, http://www.northoffshore.com/hallo.gif

I’ts been a while… I haven’t got the time to be here on OSO as much as I wanted, but things are great, and my “new” Scarab runs perfect. :D

What about your new motors?

kaama82 08-15-2007 05:01 PM

I see it has a notched transom, what year hull is it???

38KV 08-15-2007 05:12 PM

Just do it if you have the opportunity. Your'e NOT gonna regret it!

The only tricky thing is less docking maneuverability.
The boat almost jump away when I shift the gears, and idles at 8 mph...

kaama82 08-15-2007 05:14 PM

Probably throws one hell of a wake. That would really piss off all those rag bagers......

38KV 08-15-2007 05:20 PM

I did it all by my self (except the glass job) in three weeks.

With a lot of help from my very good friends of course..

I'm not sure about the year, but I think it is somewhere between 82 and 86.
Probably 82 or 83.

kaama82 08-15-2007 05:23 PM

Mine is a 82, there was a friend of mine that had a 81, no notch in the transom. You did a great job on everything. Was the transom wet?????

As far as I know most of the KV's don't have that notch, but I'm not sure..

Kind of...

Not that much around the drives, but much more in the upper section.
I think the water came in between the deck and the hull.

Here's a pic of the old "transom"... :D

One more... :D

38KV 08-15-2007 05:45 PM

Here's the rotten stuff gone.

kaama82 08-15-2007 05:53 PM

That one pic, showing the transom with no gimbal, looks just like mine when I had my gimbals off. Black boat with a white gel behind where the gimbal is. I pulled rotten wood out of mine, but it was in the stringers and bulkheads. I take it, you had some reputable glass guys do the transom....

38KV 08-15-2007 06:11 PM

We replaced/modified the stringers as well.
Just to make sure it would handle the new power.

A last "before" and a "after" pic.

Then I have to sleep. Time is 01:08 am over here... http://www.northoffshore.com/images/gif/beddybys.gif

Did a great job on the re-rigg. Why solid glass transom???
I understand it will never rot again.........But wow a lot of work, Money, and weight.

Looks great though, see you also filled in the grid work on the floor. Did you use balsa wood to do the floor or is that solid glass too? :D

Jon

kaama82 08-15-2007 08:16 PM

It looks like the grid work was removed, if you compare the 2 pics.....Just guessing though.....

satisfactionII 08-15-2007 09:28 PM

Very nice redo on the Scarab.,. Have fun with that strong baby. :cool-smiley-011:

Superior strength! The transom is rock solid.

And yes, it's a little heavier, but not more than 50 lbs compared with a regular transom.

Thats correct.

We removed the grid work and replaced it with 5/8" layers of divinycell.

38flatdeck 08-16-2007 07:57 AM

jhiguy377 08-16-2007 01:28 PM

i'm inspried; great job. btw, do those tabs work with the side -by- side drive dimesnsion?

38KV 08-16-2007 05:26 PM

The drives came of a 42’ Cougar in England, and I bought them last year for a very reasonable price.
They are used with very few hours, and looks like new.

Thanks!

No probs at all with the tabs. Lot of space.

jez350 08-16-2007 09:07 PM

Absolutely awesome KV! It inspires me to attack my transom. What is the procedure for going all fibreglass?

Can you describe or at least send us to a link on how to do an all fiberglass transom. I think your work would be greatly appreciated by everyone contemplating this on their boat.
