Here are a few more pics from the same poker run. :) |
:D Holy cow you put 598's in it with SSM 6's. What is your top speed now? That is a huge step up from 454's with TRS. Any pictures of the conversion or at least what it looks like now?
|
Very nice, lets see some pics of the hardware.

Yep that’s a pretty big step for sure, but it was definitely worth it. The old Scarab acts like a new boat and really came to life. I run 80 at the moment, but I think I can push it to 85 with new propellers. I’m 400-500 rpm short @WOT. I was thinking of starting a thread about the conversion last year, but I’ve been to busy with other stuff. BTW, Here are two video clips from last Saturday. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DwlKhGCsQwA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G1zIUHegu2o |

Jon Here are a few pics from the re-rigging. New transom made in solid fiberglass. No wood at all. http://www.northoffshore.com/images/.../z_a%20005.jpg Here's one of the cut outs for the drives. http://www.northoffshore.com/images/...0SSM%20002.jpg Inner transom and motor mounts in place. http://www.northoffshore.com/images/...mbly%20013.jpg |
That awesome, would love to see the pics when you get a chance, thinking about going down that road with mine.....
|
One motor in...
http://www.northoffshore.com/images/...otor%20002.jpg Both... http://www.northoffshore.com/images/...ring%20038.jpg A bit different view... http://www.northoffshore.com/images/...ring%20021.jpg |
Rear end completed.
http://www.northoffshore.com/images/...ring%20043.jpg Last pic for now, but I'll post some more later if you are interested. |
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET........................ .....
Looks really good, nice job on the re-rig That is got to be one of the coolest set-ups I have seen on a Scarab. |
I guess I spoke to soon. Thanks, Looks great.
|
I take it, you had somebody do the work for you?????

I’ts been a while… I haven’t got the time to be here on OSO as much as I wanted, but things are great, and my “new” Scarab runs perfect. :D What about your new motors? |
I see it has a notched transom, what year hull is it???
|

The only tricky thing is less docking maneuverability. The boat almost jump away when I shift the gears, and idles at 8 mph... |
Probably throws one hell of a wake. That would really piss off all those rag bagers......

With a lot of help from my very good friends of course..

Probably 82 or 83. |
Mine is a 82, there was a friend of mine that had a 81, no notch in the transom. You did a great job on everything. Was the transom wet?????

Not that much around the drives, but much more in the upper section. I think the water came in between the deck and the hull. Here's a pic of the old "transom"... :D http://www.northoffshore.com/images/...egel%20003.jpg One more... :D http://www.northoffshore.com/images/...egel%20008.jpg |

That one pic, showing the transom with no gimbal, looks just like mine when I had my gimbals off. Black boat with a white gel behind where the gimbal is. I pulled rotten wood out of mine, but it was in the stringers and bulkheads. I take it, you had some reputable glass guys do the transom....
|
We replaced/modified the stringers as well.
Just to make sure it would handle the new power. A last "before" and a "after" pic. Then I have to sleep. Time is 01:08 am over here... http://www.northoffshore.com/images/gif/beddybys.gif http://www.northoffshore.com/images/...z_PICT0003.JPG http://www.northoffshore.com/images/.../z_a%20004.jpg |

Just to make sure it would handle the new power. I understand it will never rot again.........But wow a lot of work, Money, and weight. Looks great though, see you also filled in the grid work on the floor. Did you use balsa wood to do the floor or is that solid glass too? :D Jon |
It looks like the grid work was removed, if you compare the 2 pics.....Just guessing though.....
|
Very nice redo on the Scarab.,. Have fun with that strong baby. :cool-smiley-011:

I understand it will never rot again.........But wow a lot of work, Money, and weight. And yes, it's a little heavier, but not more than 50 lbs compared with a regular transom. |

No probs at all with the tabs. Lot of space. |
Absolutely awesome KV! It inspires me to attack my transom. What is the procedure for going all fibreglass?
