Default new to me scarab 22

first time to post and wanted to say hello from Albuquerque.

just bought this boat a couple weeks ago. 1995 Scarab 22 with 496 stroker motor, bravo 1, 24p 4 blade SS prop, trim tabs.

boat is in great shape. am replacing the decking to the sides of the motor. the deck plates were leaking a bit and wood is soft. got into it today and the area is very small where the wood is bad so it will be an easy fix. graphics buddy who does all my company stuff is getting after the boat in a couple weeks. then trailer paint to match. got a good deal on this so could not pass it up. engine was built by a reputable drag boat racer here in town. full girdled top and bottom, roller motor and solid. Guy i bought it from was pretty anal on his toys so it has always been in covered storage and never beached. I do want to replace the carpet so if anyone knows of any pre-fabbed kits out there please let me know. Will be reading a lot on here for advice and such.

couple pics.

Congrats on your new boat! That motor looks like it will haul the mail! How much HP are you running? Do you know what the top speed is? 70?

Should have a lot of fun with that. I loved mine with a 454 mag. Only thing I am thinking is the 4 blade might manhandle that boat a little especially at higher speeds where you need to keep it balanced on the keel pad. Just a thought.

Nice boat. I dont think that those years scarabs came with much of a pad. Depending on your HP, you are probably good with the 24P Bravo 1, or a 23 Pitch Mirage Plus.

My 21' rides 10x better with a 3-blade mirage then it did with a 4-blade. Something you might want to look into.

Cant speak for certain on a 95, but my 96 absolutely had what Wellcraft called "a modified Delta Pad" and the key to keeping those/that boat running quick was to get it balance on the pad.

Thanks for all the replies. I just got home a couple hours ago. Am a roughneck on an oil rig and have been up for over 24 hours!

Bought the boat from a good friend and it was GPS'd at 4200 feet elevation at 82 mph.

I will be asking alot of questions since this is my first power boat (not really a power boat compared to a lot I see on here but its a start). I would like to go to a 3 blade. the 24p 4 blade I have is getting balanced right now and should have it back in a couple weeks. looking to sell it but I don't have a clue where to start when it comes to props. I am a diesel mechanic by trade and build high HP diesel engines locally and an old (well only 39) hot rodder and top fuel engine builder in 2000. well enough of history I wanna LEARN BOATS! YAHOOOOO!!!

right now the engine is well built. .650 lift roller cam, roller rockers, roller lifters, 9.0-1 compression, 502 crank, h-beam rods, forged pistons, girdled top and bottom, full MSD ignition (rev limited to 6k right now), 850 double pumper holley. I would like to remove the motor and dyno it but maybe next winter project and detail the heck out of the engine bay.

what would you guys suggest is a good start for a prop? I am not really wanting to set records with this boat as I still have 2 youngsters in the house and don't need to freak them out too bad. I figure I will use this one to get my feet wet in the boating game and then step up to a cat hull twin engine boat for some better stability and speed.

I am open to suggestions and eager to learn!
