A couple of days ago I made up some gel coat and covered the exposed areas that I ground out.

Today, I used an 8' level off of the existing strake to make sure the temporary strake was straight and true compared to the existing strake. I put a little sealant around the the holes in the wood and screwed the strakes to the bottom of the hull. I have the strakes cut at 12" and 18" from the back. This will be for quick removal at the ramp. Where the temporary strake meets up with the existing strake I ground the wood down so it makes a smooth transition.

Now hopefully the weather will calm down a bit and maybe warm up a tad. I plan on trying 2 different props, my 3 blade 25" Mirages that I ran on my last test and my everyday 29" Spinelli's that I know how they perform. I will probably not try my 24" Spenelli round ears that are my fastest props. I don't plan on ever running these again after this season.

Thanks Sam.

A couple weeks ago I tried the additional lengthened strakes. With my 3 blade mirage at cruise throttle position I gained 2mph and 200RPM for my best cruise speed with these props 52mph @ 3800RPM but I only gained 1/2mph on top end...damn.

I then went to the ramp changed props to my everyday 4 blades. My cruise speed was up to 54mph but I only saw an increase of 100rpm that is a gain of 3mph with only 100rpm increase, must be seeing cleaner water?? And again less then 1/2mph top speed
On a side note the boat was got squirrely in the stern when I kept trimming it up with these props.

I went back to the ramp and removed 12" off of the back of the strakes. I went back out with the 4 blade props. Same results in speeds, and that stopped the loose stern problem.

Overall I did not achieve the speed results that I would have liked. But the overall attitude of the boat was good. How the boat reacted to trim, how it carried the bow and the angle attack was great!

Now it is time to pull the engines and order new cams for the blowers!

Also more proof of the difference between what we think we know (and are told) Vs what we do know.
I don't feel so bad now for not adding mine when I had the hull upside down.
Thanks for the report.

Yes the speed increase was not there. But I am not saying this was a failure at all. I am glad I did this. The ride and attitude of the boat was a big Plus! The water break point was ~2.5 further back on the hull and the bow floats around and doesn't crash hard when I hit waves. (there were a couple of big cruisers running up the river that were putting out some big wake) All in all it was a success and I will be adding the additional strake length this winter.

Hello Rookie,

nice to see some pictures from your work.

You srewed the wood only for this test run ? No sealing betwhene the wood and the hull ? My idea are using tabe, to bring the water from the hull over the wood. I use not wood i like to use POM-C like this: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Zuschnitt-Pla...item3cc9458d89

How many and what sice srews you used ? I dont like to make more holes, than needed in my hull, for testing my strakes. :-)

What topspeed you drive with this srewed wood on the hull.

Where do the strakes ending now, messured from the transum ?

Rookie can you send me some more pictures ?? [email protected] Thank you.

Wouldn't call it a failure either. Would have loved to been there for the before/after.
I made a set for a 14' O/B I had that drug the bow. I duct taped them on where the bow broke the water and thought they would lift the bow.
Did the opposite! Acted like brakes. Was glad they were only taped on as I peel them off after the first test.
My earlier point was only that we never know for sure w/o doing the actual test. We can know what the experts and magazines say but until you actually do it.........
I've spent a ton of time/money doing what common wisdom told me and had either zero return or negative return.
I'm the biggest sucker for dyno sheets. If an ad for a chrome air cleaner shows HP's on their dyno sheet, I'll send them a check

Hello twin O/B Sonic,

have you make some pictures of the tabed on parts.

How fast are you with this tabed on? Did there are on place after the test with only the tabe ??

This is a old Bild from my boat, but it shows nice the strakes.

This is from 10/2012 with full speed. Shortys and lab 28" Bravo One Props.

You can see the inner strakes are totaly out of the water. The only lift are from the outer strakes.
The water are mostly the same flat river water.
