Question Scarab 29 single help!

Hi, i'm looking for some expert advice about what would be the best way for me to Reach 80-85 mph on the gps? I have a 1996 boat with a 2011 496ho (60 hrs) and a Bravo 1 from 1996 that is in mint condition. I have a 4 blade Bravo SS 24p prop. I run just short of 60 mph with half tank and 2 people today. I would like to run 80+ mph.. I have been looking at whipple sc but dont know if its the way to go or even if 650 hp with the right drive will do what i want? I want to have an engine that is as reliable as possible.. Is it worth building on a 496ho at all...
And some advice about drives as well is needed.. I have heard a lot about imco -2"...

please help me to make the right decissions..
Anybody out there with personal experience from the Scarab 29 single?.

Excuse My english, since i'm from Finland its far from perfect

I had 713 HP on a procharged 509 in my 95 29' Scarab back a few years. With stock X dimension, I could get 79.6 on GPS......twice! Always could get 78.

I would think with a stock X-dim, you would need about 800 HP. Problem is keeping a drive alive behind that much power. I ran a stock XR and it would survive, but I did treat it nice on holeshots.

A new engine and I had 589 HP last season without the Procharger, but was only reaching 65-66??? Found out I have a wet transom and stringers. Soooooo..... Out with the wet and in with new woood and glass. I plan on raising the X-dim by 2" and hoping for 72-74 MPH with the 589 HP mill.
We will see!

Straight bottom boat, weight, drive set up, big cash for big motor, and the need to be reliable, 80-85, 29 SCARAB with a single engine...add up all those elements and = Not gonna happen in a 29 SCARAB.
I have owned a 29 for 12 years and run hard in the ocean and enjoyed it at local lakes...I have a single 502 with exhaust and the best I have ever seen on GPS is 61mph. Runs great 50-55 all day long and remains turn key stock...best advice, leave it stock and enjoy boating! Option 2, go fast = big motor bills! Not worth it, and not fun! :-)

With enough money you can make a bath tub go 80 to 85 !!!!!! Don't waste your hard earned money ....... Lie to the babes and tell them it goes 90 and buy a lot of booze and beer and party down .. The babes will never know the difference or care and look at the great time you will have trying drink and $crew yourself to death ...
