I can get info on about
every 46ft Larry Smith that was built. Not a lot of them around that have not been sitting rotting away. I will EMail you from the Business Computer with Photos. Mike J. |
I did some checking over
the weekend and there were only 6 46ft Larry Smith Scarabs ever built. The mold is still here in SoCal if you want a new one. The photos I have are of the Chuck Norris Twin Cat W/Arneson surface drives. It sold W/Hydro Hoist in Tortola B.V.I. last year. I did a complete rebuild/ ReRig of the boat for the Owner of PUSSERS RUM. He had the Boat 8 years. I will send you some shots Mike J. |
Mike J,
Post some shots here if you get a chance.:) Shane |
Thanks a lot mike for your time.

Why are these boats somewhere sitting rotting away? Are they slow, unrealiable, have bad handling?
|
Hey Mike J,
Do you know the history of a certain 43 Larry Smith ? We call it the number 5 boat, I think it was the one that set the some kilo record at 126 . The boat was mostly white with a real subtle stars and stripes graphic on it. A friend of a friend owns it , it has triple 1100's with crashboxes and number 6's. The story I heard was he bought it right from Wellcraft with a broken motor and drive for REAL cheap. |
26scarab, The 43ft you ask
about was the GENTRY #5 and the record was 126.38 set Oct.7 1993. It was running 3 Gentry Turbo Motors. I sure I will get a reply on that from "extremeF1" I sent your cpoy of the 1990 races yesterday, I have a 1 or 2 posters of the Gentry Scarab and I will send one for your friend. Boatrcr185, Bad choice of words "Rotting" its kind of a term for not being use much, I sent you a Email about the one that has been stripped and setting outside for a few years. Mica, I can't post photos from my Webtv. send me your email, Michael from Germany has been nice enough to post photos for me to the Board. Michael, Your BOX of tapes and "T" Shirts went out also. Thanks for the reply and the tape Mike.
Just to let you know, that boat is owned by a pretty wealthy individual and is well maintained. Although it isn't used too much. Unfortunatly they have not been able to duplicate that original speed. I believe the fastest it has gone was 118 GPS. They have told be it is pretty squirrely at that speed and couldn't imagine what it would be like at 126 ! You are wealth of Scarab information ! There are actually a few Larry Smith boats running around on the nearby lake. My friend Lenny owns a 31 , that used to be the Patriot Wave boat and I believe it was driven by Craig Archer. Then another friend had a 38 built around 6-7 years ago, it was blue with American Flag graphics and I believe had Merc 1000's in it. He sold it a few years ago and the new owner has it for sale right now , real cheap ! I really like my Scarab but wish it was one of the 26 CV's then I would really be flying ! It sounds like you have allot of old memorabilia, I'm kind of a collector of the stuff so if you have anything you might want to sell PM or email me. Chuck |
