Hblair your boat is looking great. I was wondering what are you doing for fuel pumps after installing the blowers, electric or mechanical?
where did you purchase your hatch scoops from? they are going to look nice set in place. |
Thanks Hull. We still have the mechanical pumps. Was planning on going bigger fuel lines and monitoring the fuel pressure. I got the scoops from cp performence. They are advertised as being sturdy, not like automotive units. They seem heavy enough to stand on.

Do you have the block mounted fuel pumps? Or v- belt driven fuel pump?
When i had my single engine scarab 502 with the same blower set up you have and a v- belt driven fuel pump/ water pump. We separated the merc fuel pump and bought a holley performance fuel pump and separated it and put the 2 parts together, it would be okay for cruise and up until 5000 rpm, 5000rpm -wot the fuel pressure would start dropping 7psi to about 3 psi and i would have to pull off the throttles. I eventually put an electric pump in line with the mechanical that i would flip a switch if i saw the pressure start dropping. This was 15 years ago so the pumps may be a bit better now. Just something to keep an eye out for. If you have block mounted pumps i would recommend putting a performance pump on. I would hate to see you spend all that $$$ and lean out. If you have the v-belt driven fuel pump, keith eickert has a real nice back half pump that is supposed to keep up with 2 carbs per motor |
I was running these units here..
https://www.holley.com/products/fuel...s/parts/12-835 I called my guy at o'reillys, he called holley (the support number you see posted on their website is useless, hold pergatory, etc.) the guy at holley recommended this unit for dual carbs with a blower, and increasing hose size... https://www.holley.com/products/fuel...arts/12-454-13 I told my guy to order these, they are supposed to be in by the end of the week. |
We're checking on this one now..

the holley will work great.
what kind of horsepower are you hoping for or are you going to dyno them? I bet you are excited to see what it will run? |
We don't plan on dynoeing them, not right now anyway. Your guess is as good as mine on the horsepower. Looking forward to the increase in power though. I've only driven it an hour or so after the stroker kit/roller cam upgrade in the summer. So this will be a whole different boat. From what I've read I'll have to take it easy to keep from damaging the drives.

what boost are you going to be running? if you give me cam specs compression ratio ci I can try running on my desk top dyno! I wouldn't say it is 100% accurate but it will give you a ball park.
no worries you can always get these. lol just kidding Konrad 540 PRS The Konrad 540 PRS stern drive has proven to be a fantastic alternative for the obsolete MERCRUISER TRS* Sterndrive system. The 540 PRS package is a direct bolt-on replacement for the aging TRS with no hull modifications necessary. With hundreds of successful conversions on the water, it has proven to handle greater power levels with unparalleled durability and performance. Most conversions can be completed within a day's work. We won't be running much boost. Supposed to be between 4-5. Maybe later we get heads and cams better suited for blowers, and lower the compression ratio and then turn up the boost. By the way thanks mild thunder for the advice a few weeks ago.
The pulleys and other stuff came in from the blower shop today. We plan to work on the boat all day tomorrow. Should get a lot done. Today we got some stuff painted and the steering wheel put together... http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...pszonbgtlt.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...psni0dompz.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps4xssdnub.jpg http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...ps07qebdfh.jpg |
