Planning on taking this boat to staniel cay in June. Upon inspection of everything I noticed where a previous had welded the right gimbal ring, the weld is cracking on the inside. I had a spare that we painted yesterday. We're gonna pull the right engine and replace the whole thing...

Got the skeg repaired on the left drive and decided to go ahead and repaint both drives. I’ll be changing the oil in them as well as the tranny’s and engines. Also have a leaking steering hose to replace also. I’ve decided to attempt a weld on the right gimbal ring crack. I’m pretty confident I’ll be able to clean it up and weld it right. If I don’t like the looks of it I’ll replace it.

Three burnt valves on the left motor lol. Bottom end is good. Should get the heads back this week. Gonna put it back together and run it a few weeks before we go on the big trip to staniel.

Removing the weiand 256 chargers for now, plan to upgrade to aluminum heads later and get the compression where it needs to be as well as bigger valves and better cams. We’ll do all this when we put these motors in the 38.

Going back to air gap intakes and Holley 750’s

Got the drives repaired and painted, I have some new anodes coming. The boat will be in salt water for 4-5 days when we go on the big trip to staniel.

I pushed it too much with the blowers I think. I had 9.2:1 compression before the blowers which is not ideal. When we go back together in the other boat the heads and cam will be a purpose built setup with the blowers in mind.

Im no engine expert at all but i think compression with a blower needs to be more in the 7:1 or 7.5:1, and i think you can achieve that more with piston design than with a cam swap... make sure you get the right recipe!

Yeah you’re right jeff for some reason I was thinking the chamber size was somewhat different beteeen these heads and the ones I was looking at using. They’re actually about the same. Swapping pistons on these motors may not be feasible, since I would still be at 489 cubes. I may be looking at different motors. And then the 256 blowers aren’t really big enough. whose idea was this anyway?? 😳
