'84 scarab II ('30)
Anyone know the dry weight of this boat. Also looking for an average WOT speed with two 330hp 454s. Finally, any idea of the hp required to get 70+ at WOT? I've had this project boat for a little over two years and I'm trying to learn more about it's performance characteristics.

I am not shure about the weight, but I will guess 7000-7500 lbs.I think you can run 55-60 mph with stock 330's. I have a friend who owned a Scarab II a few years ago and he ran 75 mph with 2x510cui/550hp NA and SSM III drives.

30 ft Wellcraft Scarab II with twins is 6400 lbs and is also dry weight. However this may be with twin small blocks, the information stated 300 hp. I don't know what engine HP and combos would have been available.

Small blocks were not available.
454/330hp trs 64-66mph
454/370hp trs 67-68mph
454/400hp trs 70-72mph
454/440hp trs 72-74mph
There were also a few Arneson and Kaama drive boats made starting in 82 on very special order (Gus had to like you) The Arnesons were usually paired with Crusader 454/350hp engines and would run an honest 70mph for the cost of the 330 package. Pretty slick, I had an Arneson Scarab ll, wish I still had it. The Kaamas were paired with a 454/425hp motor that Kaama bought from another engine builder. I don't remember speeds on that one. But it should have been able to do 75+ Not too many of those were built as the package was as expensive as the 440 package. Wellcraft did not encourage these surface drive packages very much as the hull had to be bluprinted to remove the built in hook and build some rocker in or they ran horribly nose down. Bluprinted properly they ran very flat and handled big water like a 34 ft boat. The drives stuck straight out 4ft behind the boat so that made sense.
I have also heard rumors of a few 30s with the 454/475hp turbo merc package. They supposedly ran in the low mid 80s and were VERY unstable as the hull really wasn't designed for those speeds.
