Try switching your in/out hoses at the pump.
I replaced my impeller and SWORE I put the hoses back on the same way, but somehow I had it backwards.

My 85 242ls did this also. I ended up replacing the wood screws with longer machine screws, 1/2" x 1" hardwood backing strips finished off with a fender washer and nylock nut. Totally different boat...
