Work done by Damark Marine Spec in Gibraltar MI, they said reason for the 8k was it was a genuine Merc Crusier Super Charger.

Just purchased a great looking 1994 Formula 382 SR-1 with 385 hrs, twin 525sc engines, I used it about 4 times, all short trips to river area for dinner, last trip about 30 miles coming back port...
