I was with Rich when this happened. We were running between Backwaters cove and the toll bridge, probably around 45-55 mph, the boat pulled left and the port motor hit the rev limiter. We didn't...

I may be wrong, but I would think a Dominator with 500's should run better than 82 and some change. Every test I've read about 32s with 496's the boat ran 82-84mph.

1st make sure your batteries are charged before you do any serious digging. Always try the simple fixes first. Maybe, try switching your batt. switch and see if you have power to the starboard side...
