Sorry for the delayed reply. Looks like you got it figured out! I did it myself like you did. The plastic had expanded and was loose on the nipple. Pretty clear that it was allowing air to get sucked...

I had this issue with my 2006 292 Fastech. One of the pick-ups where the plastic tube connect to the 90° fitting lost its seal allowing air to get sucked in and causing the pump to lose its prime....

My 292 had hydraulic steering factory installed. Another upgrade you should definitely consider is replacing those small trim tabs with 280S K-Planes. Especially with the engine...

Mine has the rubber hose from the tank vent going to the fill tube. The fill tube has a barb fitting that it connects to. So it essentially vents through the gas cap.

Around 5100 rpm. I have 1.65:1 gear ratio. The props have been worked on by BBlades too. Works out to about 10-12% slip. They work really good on my 292.
