Well,

It's officially way worse than originally thought. Cylinder walls, pistons and heads are rusted beyond recognition and possibly even repair.

Anyone got a longblock or engine they wanna...

I had an identical situation on my boat. Turns out the ignition wire is breaker protected and the connection from the switch to the breaker to the wiring harness was crap.

Only way I found out...

Water in Exhaust Manifold

OK,

Posted other day about tearing down my '99 7.4L MPI and seeing little specks of rust on the intake ports and valve stems.

This weekend I got the exhaust off and the starboard side manifold...

I have ~300 hours on mine with 2 bad overheats. I lost an impeller the first time and lost an alternator pulley (therefore the belt) the second time.

I am doing 99% of this just so I feel better...

In my case I had to remove the plenum first. Half of the bolts are covered up by it. I believe you will have to as well, assumin it is an MPI and not carb.

And in another feet of engineering...

Under the valve covers everything looks very clean. I didn't see any signs of rust on any spring or valve stem (above the guide). I think at this point after seeing a puddle of water in a manifold...

Engine has overheated twice and is defintely suffering from slight water intrusion. I blow steam and get some plug steaming as well but get zero milkshake, oil always...

I am trying to put exhaust on my 7.4L MPI as we speak as well and what I can't believe is that prices range from $800 all the way up to $2100 and that doesn't even get into headers, just manifold...

Every time I install my drive I take a tube of Merc spline grease and stick the driveshaft right into the tube coating it fully. If this isn't enough to keep her lubed for at least a 100 hrs I have...

Gotcha, I was thinking about the diode when I was drawing the diagram at my desk. My anchor light is a full 360 power retract light.

I had a Polish moment there for a second. Would have to be a DPDT with both inputs tied to +12V. Run one side of both switches to the anchor light in parallel with the illumination circuit...
