Don' do it mon...axles are cheap compared to the kind of damage your boat (or another vehicle/occupants, etc) could suffer if you have another failure because you reused a marginal axle.

Maybe the LED's aren't pulling enough juice to fully trip the flasher relay. I'd put in regular bulbs and try it like Audio said. You might end up having to get flasher relays that take less amps...
