Cooling down the Merc Trans

I have been told to directly route the discharge side of the merc trans cooler thru the transom instead of thru the exhaust manifold. Sounds simple enough.... Anyone have a suggestions / comments on...

Some more pics of my 79... Teak work sure is time consuming, but the end result is worth it. Wish I had more time, but things like work always get in the way of fun.
