What you need is a hydrofoil, its a plate that bolts to the cavitation/ventilation plate on your motor. You can get them at West Marine. It will make all the difference in the world.

We had a 98 322 put almost 500 hours on it before we sold it in 02, no blisters at all, a few stress cracks, but that was about it. And as far as the stress cracks go we do our boating in So Cal, 95%...

Rick, had them on a 32' Baja with twin 502's. They worked great ,and I never ran out of gas, which I used to do all the time in my 27' Baja. When it comes to diesels the gauges are more expensive...
