while comming home last night from a boat ride
i slowed to go into my hoist and heard a continuios
clunking sound from the outdrive i opened the engine hatch
and the sound is also noticible in the rear engine area
it clunks in neutral also but seems worse at idle gear
i had the coupler changed in may of 04 i hope it's not that again its a bravo 1 w/502 ran it home around 50 the whole way
seemed fine till i came to a stop

I'd pull the drive and check the gimble bearing, universal, drive shaft and inspect the coupler for starters. I just had to replace my starboard coupler..... so I know what you mean..... hopefully the coupler didn't get messed up... it's easiest to start with these items and go from there......
Good luck!!

While they have the drive off, make sure they check the drive alignment and while they are at it, the gimble steering pins to assure they are tight to spec. Make sure when they are done, you get it in writing that they did all these things. I've seen stuff come out and engine isn't aligned and problem reoccurs. Just a little recourse.. not sure if you have a good relationship with your mechanic or not...

been taking my boats to the same place for 12 years
they do a lot of performance boats but just like any
where they seem to get to cocky as far as pricing and they
told me today it would be 10 days to two weeks before they could look at it can't have that so im gonna have my buddys mech look at it he has a 38 powerquest and
his mech has worked on that boat since 99 very happy with him and he will do it on the side most likley save money
with him he speaks very highly of this guy

I found a good place and last time I had my boat in there I spoke to the mechanic I like and asked if he does anything on the side and that I'm looking at doing some work over the winter...... hoping this works out for reason I won't have to leave my boat anywhere and save a little money. I'm more interested in it being done right and having my boat at home....
Good luck, hopefully this guy works out for you... find out what he drinks or smokes and throw a little his way..... if you like his work/price and want to continue a business relationship with him..... hard to find good people that know what they are doing and willing to do it on the side.... take care him, it can go a long way!!! Keep him happier than his other customers and usually they'll keep you on the "A" list when you have a problem next time....
See ya on the water!!!
