Default Help with anchor locker repair

I'm getting ready to put the boat away for the winter. One of the things I have to work on over the winter is the anchor locker.
The anchor is held in a vertical position with some clamps on the aft wall of the locker (actually, pretty slick how that's done). The previous owner obviously did not use the clamps and let the anchor sit in the bottom of the locker. As a result, the anchor has damaged the floor in the locker and needs to be replaced.
1) I was told the boat is Kevlar, but I can't verify that. Can I use regular old West System on it if it is Kevlar? If not Kevlar, I know West will work. How can I tell if the hull is Kevlar or Fiberglass?
2) I want to recoat the entire locker bright white. Should I paint it (what type), or should I coat with a layer of white tinted resin? If resin, should I use epoxy resin, polyester, vinylester, or?

1.yes, use west system for all your repairs. it will work with all composites. Kevlar has a yellowish look and also is very dificult it cut or grind. if you notice it fuzz up while you are grinding on it its probably kevlar.

2. gel coat wont stick to epoxy very well so if you do the repairs with west system you will have to use an epoxy type paint in the locker. you can use PPG's DP-48 sealer than something like imron.

waybomb, I had the same problem with my anchor locker. I took my boat to LINE-X and they coated it with truck bed liner material and it works great. It filled in all the gouges and looks cool also.

Thanks guys.
I'll get enough West for the job, and I'd like to do that bed liner thing, but no trailer, and no truck to pull it with. So, it'll be paint.

If you use the West find out if the bed liner stuff is poly based. If so you will have problems. I know that you can prime with durratech and then go back to poly type products.

The Duratech is Durraprime. It is a grey or clear Primer.
