Does the newer version of the XR bolt right on to the original ITS? Or has the ITS styling also been changed? If I need to replace my original XR on my ITS, what are the advantages to the newer XR other than case styling over the original XR that is discounted?

zahndok,
The new design uses a different method for shiming the gears in the case. The clutch is suppose to be different also, but I dont know that for a fact. I just build them with the newest parts from Merc..
The ITS has a longer input shaft, so the regular XR wont just bolt up. Merc has changed the input shafts to a metric ujoint and you cant mix and match. It would have to have the proper input shaft, for the ITS, when it is built. Or it could be switched after it is built.
Hope that helps.
