My Boat Needs New Clear Coat?
#1
I had my boat detailed today.
The top half of my hull is really sun beaten. It is original gel coat not paint. My detailer did a nice job of bringing the colors back but told me "the clear is shot". There are still some splotches where the clear is hazy and cloudy.
He said after this season I might want to look at having the top half of the boat shot with a new clear coat from the rubrail up.
Does this make any sense? It sounds reasonable to me, but want a glass guru's opinion.

It sounds like the clear that is "shot" is OEM in the mold before the colored gel. If it is hazed on top of the white surface, you should be okay to sand and reclear. I reccomend PPG 2021 clear coat for durability and ease of working. If Dave answers this thread then the "guru" has spoken.

how much would this cost to have done. my boat is an 02 but from leaving the boat in the water over night every once and a while you can see a little fade from the water line. after waxing you cant see it but i still know its there. is there anything else i can do.
