Is there any real way to fix a couple of sections in clear coat without redoing the entire deck?? The sections that need repair are about 3 inches by 2 inches....Dont really want to do the whole deck unless I have to. The boat is a 42....Thanks for the input...

yes its possible but you may have a slight halo at the blend line. i have done virtually seamless repairs but it takes a great deal of patience and technique. i will post a run down on the process later on tonight when i have the time.

Dave ...love the quote there
well . . . my only involvment in this project is going to be pointing and laughing . . . thats it . . . pointing and laughing
Our 442 project was sanded, painted, graphics painted and on the final clear coat...... yes FINAL...the guy forgot to put the hardener in the clear.... covered it with a tarp only to learn the next day it was ~ you already know!!! ~ a mess.
The work was beautiful but I thought of your quote when he called with the 'news' *laughing* whats another 3 weeks? *shaking head here*

some paints will blend (melt in) better the others, do you know what brand of clear coat? it is possible but the spot will eventually (typically) show many years later. I have done virtually invisible blends ... but like Dave said you have to be very careful & take your time.

OK . . .here's a quick little run down on the way i fix paint in the middle of a panel.
keep repair as small as possible
repair surface and sand immediate area up to 600 grit
buff out surrounding area with a course compound.
base out repair with a sealer or ground coat that will get you a fast coverage
spray out color and only take it out as far as you have to to get a good color transition
here's the tricky part. mix your clear slightly over reduced. spray an area slightly larger than your base color and if you are in the middle of a deck with no features spray your clear in a large square pattern and don't fan the gun out at the end of your passes. stop the gun and clear flow abruptly at the end of your square pattern. use only one or two coats and after it has flashed for a few minutes you need to dust on a clear edge blender like Sherwin Williams BS-10 or Evercoat has a pretty good aerosol blender. like i said just dust this stuff on and maybe do it in two or three light coats about 5 minutes apart.
after it has dried overnight lightly sand it down with 1500 wet than maybe 3000.
lightly buff the surface to work out the gloss.
i have used this process with pretty good results but its not for the beginner. good luck

Hey Glassdave,
Thnks for the tip, sounds like a job best left to pro's..I will get through this year and have the whole top done this winter...I just thought it might be something a novice could do for such a small area..Should have know it is on a boat...nothing easy or simple.....
