Starter internal difference 10 MT LH vs RH
#1
Anyone in the automotive electrical field know the differences in making up a counter rotation starter vs normal ?
I know the Armature and Bendix are different, but is there anything else ? It seems that the field windings appear the same. I'm currently trying to make up some starters to keep in stock for rear mounted inboards and 470 4 cyl motors.

Some field coils are different, some are not. The armature shaft for CCW has the splines reversed, but the armature windings may or may not be reversed. just be sure to bench test each one. I would lock test each one with a set of channel locks to be sure the drive is correct rotation. Reversr field coils are easily purchased through most auto electric shops. I do have them if you can't find them locally.

Hi ! Does anyone have any diagrams of any of the differences in the field winding housing and brush package.
My recent starter dilema started when I bought a starter from a marine supplier for $100 as is scratch and dent thinking it would free up some time as opposed to rebuilding.
I ended up making a starter up anyway. I just want some more info so that I don't have to approach this with a parts changer mentality. And actually not experiment with parts until I have a good starter. I have more to worry about.
Also looking for Delco PMGR starter brush assemblies. This will enable me to put a few starters that I have back in service.
I think I will build a bunch of starters over the winter. I have had no comebacks with any starters. And new solenoids and other parts are cheap enough to make it worthwhile.
The first time I got a PMGR starter I slammed it one the floor in front or a friend calling it a piece of junk !
Actually now I really like them as they crank motor over faster, use less amps, and are so light and easy to change, and are cost effective as well.
Does anybody make a PMGR starter for a rear top mount Merc ?
