KAAMA, 540's in my future
#1
Yo, Mrs. Cleaver,,,,,,I got me two sets of H-beam 6.385 rods and two 4.250-stroke 4340 one-piece-rear-seal cranks on the way for next winter's engine freshening. Desktop Dyno indicates that 825hp is possible with 540cid, the Reed camshafts currently in the 509's, my Merlin iron heads, SRP pistons and the superchargers @7lbs. I just might have to paint 'em YELLA. Hey, it worked for you. Then again, red is a great color too.
DD says I could find more power with a cam change but those Reed cams you sold me really run and idle nice.
Have you thought about looking foor the ultra tall-deck blocks and building a pair of 700+ci engines?

Mark, my new rods are in transit and should be here Monday or Tuesday. Crankshafts should be here the end of the week.
Here's the deal; you might as well start looking for a tall block, maybe even an 11-inch tall deck. It won't hurt so bad if you do it a piece at a time, and you're in no hurry anyway. A project engine would be a neat longterm project, something you might even get me to help with. 4.6 bore and 5-inch stroke is 665ci. I'll have to run that through desktop dyno and play with it a bit. I'll bet that engine would sound pretty good through your Stellings.

I have a Merlin 2 tall deck 10.2 with max bore that I would let go for $400. It still has life left in it. I also have one with a welded deck that I would throw in . You pay the freight. If it were me I would have a good machine shop check them out. They should be ok for NA. Joe Murray

As far as which winter I actually crack the 509's open, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
Joe, what is max bore on that one?

Crazy, glad you like those Reed cams---sounds like they're working well for your CID/app....even if you go to larger cubes/blowers!
