Mine is documented. You do not need a plate in the engine compartment. You just need the numbers somewhere accessible in the hull, permanently affixed so if they are removed, the area will be disfigured. I used the vinyl letters inside one of the storage compartments in the cabin, and sealed them with clear epoxy.

There is some other plate you need if your boat is over a certain size, not part of the documenting.

You may be talking about the placard that states that dumping oil overboard is illegal and hazardous, etc., etc., etc. I actually need to find one of them as well.

Yeah thats it. I was looking for pics of engine compartments that show both that plate, and the document numbers.

Guys, those plastic placards are common & can be purchased from any West Marine, B.O.W.(Boat Owners Warehouse), Overtons, Lewis Marine, Land & Sea, etc., marine catalog or store.

Mine is documented and I agree with all of the comments above. JROMY has the best idea. I had
a sign shop router the Doc Numbers into a piece of starboard and the attached it to the bulkhead next to the toilet with 5200.

I suspect they'll need to destroy something to get it off but a good glass man can fix anything.

All true, but if the Coast Guard stops you and they (numbers) are not "permanant" be prepared for a big fine...over $1000.
Been there done that. Got my charges dropped but I had to provide photo's and a certifed letter.
