If you are on plane; put on the damn lanyard(s).

If you don't have one on your boat; install it AND use it.

I know its hard to see someone operating without a lanyard; but if you do... call them on the carpet about it. You can bet I will be. I am tired of this gross irresponsibility.

Yeah, I know there are PLENTY of other irresponsible things we all do; but come on. They are not hanging there for decoration. They most definitely WILL save a life, maybe yours/maybe mine, and will also save property; maybe yours/maybe mine.

(And I did not even mention insurance premiums and bad press.)

I agree!! If your refering to the cig that went 75' up a 45 degree hill.....someone could have been killed if the boat went a different direction.

It's really no different of an issue than the seat belts in cars... People are people and some WILL NOT USE what is best for them. Hell, let's light a cigarette, drink plutonium, walk on fire, tug on Superman's cape, spit into the wind, and mess around with bad bad Leroy Brown while we're at it.

Well, I smoke, but I do wear a lanyard. Haven't met Superman or Leroy Brown, so I can't comment on them.

I respectfully disagree. BIG difference. Non-use of your seatbelt does not affect anyone but the one who chooses not to wear it. (Unless you eject out of your car and land on someone or someone's property).

Seatbelt use is more equivalent to PFD use.

Non-use of your lanyard affects EVERYONE around you.

The POINT was that people have this thing called "freedom of choice" and as a result they will do things that are not good for them. It all started with Adam in the Garden of Eden... There is nothing we can do to make anyone do things they don't want including wearing safety devices.

I don't get pissed often on this board but this get's my goat. I don't give a rats azz if you don't care about your life, but if you get thrown from your boat w/o a kill switch lanyard then your boat becomes a scud missle that could dam well hit me or someone else!

Dave, please re-read my edited post. I did adjust my wording.

In the three 'incidents' exampled above; each of those boats continued down an imminent path of destruction after the operator was no longer operating the boat. As stated, each of the pictured examples only ruined perfectly good boats. However, had their been a pontoon boat full of 8 people in the path of those boats, they would have been in serious peril. That path could have included a beach full of beachgoers, or a packed marina.

Had each of the operators in the above examples been wearing lanyards, the boats' motors would have died immediately, and the path of imminent destruction would have been curbed down to a fraction; due to the boats coming to a stop in a matter of feet/yards. If you look at the Race Video of Brett Hartley and partner getting ejected from the Race Gladiator, you can see the effect that proper lanyard use has. The boat stopped IMMEDIATELY. (Yeah, I know this video is during a race, but the same principle applies.)
