It seems likely that a flush mount thru hull will create less drag than a transom mount. A transom mount that is trimmed correctly will still scruff 2+ MPH (Lake X est). It would be tough to prove that a thru-hull P/U scruffs less speed because it requires a major re-rig and in my case there were too many variables done to the boat with numerous winter projects. As my thru hull system is totally flush with the bottom (no channel in the bottom in front of the pick-up tube), it had to help. I want to believe the change is likely worth 1-2 MPH at 90+ MPH
I started with a channel in front of the P/U and eventually filled it back to flush as it created too much WP.

boat had a bronze flush mount on the port side.now that the boat is on a myco trailer that hole is on a bunk. i plan on stripping the bottom down and re gel when it get's cooler.

the transom mounts are pricey...retail 200.00+ . looked at rex marine site yesterday , they have one that is exactly like the latham but with no screen for 88.00..

so , i tell the guy , send me one and the reply was "were out of stock on all of those- push on and AN..we only make a limited amount each year"...

so , i am thinking the bottom route...not trying to go 80mph

btw , got a pic?

Check out the thru hull water P/U's from Stainless Marine; I like mine. If your current bronze pick-up is the kind that is a "bubble" that hangs below the bottom, it will scrub speed.
If this project is more cost sensitive than performance sensitive, I can sell you a pair of Mercury transom mounts w/ screens or a Mercury center transom mount (for twins) w/o screens.
