OK you chemists and shadetree repair experts, here's a good one for you:

I have a stainless part that is screwed into an aluminum part. This area has been assembled for several years and subjected to both salt and fresh water. Since the two materials have very dissimilar galvanic properties, they have pretty extensively corroded together. I have tried brute force, heat, and a good soaking with a spray lubricant without success. I have read that the phosphoric acid Coca-Cola will dissolve rust on mild steel, but does anyone know if this trick will work in this case as well? If not, I'm open to other suggestions as well.

Chuck, have you tried PB Blaster, best stuff I've ever used. If not, how big is this part?

It's a 1"-14 thread into a thinwall aluminum tube. The tube was anodized, but has actually begun to corrode away completely now....

If that doesn't work combined with heat it's time to give up.

Try Jack Daniels. Must be a fresh bottle.

Pour 1% on the parts that are corroded.

Then drink the other 99%

Have BAJABOB 38 breathe on it !

soak it in some hot coke.

I use Kroil on a lot of corroded things and sware by it. It is used a lot in oil refineries.
