Default Speed Coat

Hello, I just got finished having the bottom of my boat re-painted. A couple of years back I found a product that could be rolled, sprayed, or brushed over the bottom paint. It was an extremely smooth glass like coating. Does anyone have some information on this product? I don't remember the name. Do they make any competing products that anybody has used with solid information?

There is a product named speedcoat.
And as far as i know it works but you need to realy buff it on the bottom, and i only know it works on gelcoat ,i do not know about painted hulls .
But it gains speed if your hull is in perfect strait cond.
You need to call Bob Hanson @ 941 720 2799 ,he knows all about that stuff.

Actually a mirrored finish bottom is technically slower. Clean boat hulls are faster than non clean hulls, however a slightly rough surface like shark skin is faster.. Almost like 600 grit wet sand marks (although it would not look pretty) is faster. It reduces surface tension & drag by having a layer of tiny bubbles inbetween the hull & the water.. You dont see it on new boats because it doesnt look nice, also it doesnt make a huge speed difference. It is a very small ammount of gain. Also boats running in salt water will run faster than fresh due to the extray buoyancy of the salt water... Jamie / Lakeside Restorations

Yes, a slightly rough finish is faster.
