I have a 79 Excalibur 32 with 454's I have rebuilt the engines once and have low compression. Now I am having one rebuilt by a machine shop. The transmissions are original to the best of my knowledge. The boat sat for 5 years before I bought it.
My question is since I have one engine out should/ do I need to have the transmission rebuilt? The engines are 400 series, it will be rebuild to stock specs unless it needs to be punched to make it clean. but it will not be a horsepower monster.
What do you all think?
Thanks
David

If it a merctrans and the fluid looks good I would leave it. I rebuilt one of mine and it has been a problem ever since....The other side works perfectly....
However if you suspect they have had a hard life then you should have them checked out.

Westcoast what did you have rebuild merc? They are borg warners I am pretty sure they are 72's. One engine is already .30 over and other is still stock so I would assume it was a hard life. But my biggest concern is that since they sat for 5 years before I bought it.
