Newbie question here does the 500hp have square or oval on the intake?

The 500hp 502 has square port heads and intake according to Dennis Moore's book. If unsure, check! I wound up buying a square port manifold for oval port heads once! What are the head casting numbers?

This is the HP500 intake. Changed the overall look of it just a little, but it is the same.

First one on the list. 4150 carb and 9.800 deck square port.

If you want one that is a little better in my opinion. Use the Edelbrock 454-R

The stock Merc 500HP uses GM rect port heads.

all 502 stern drive engines use rect ports as far as I know..there were a few early inboard oval port 502's in the mid 90's but are very rare and cannot find them anymore...I tried everywhere when I repowered my gibson....Rob

I agree on the use of the 454 series Edlebrock. Question: How would the oval port version work with the rect port heads? Any increase in port velocity?

That could work with a "sort of stock" engine.

The mpi motors had intake 2.219 valves the Hp 500 had 2.250 valves all square port. I have two sets of the hp500 heads in the swap shop section.
