Need some help here guys:

Let's say you have a 2002 race boat, that was coverted to a pleasure boat in 2006. Is it legal to restamp it as a 2006, make a new MSO, and sell it as a brand new 2006 and not tell the buyer???

Legal no does it happen thats another story!! There will be allot of boats re stamped after this recesion leftover 2008 becomes new 2009 and so on. Not by dealer but by factory while still in yard.

That's putting it lightly if you ask me.

Once it's sold and leaves the factory you can never change the number.

Not completly true. I saw a manufacture do it at a dealership in the 90's. But, it was tagged wrong from the start.

That's a different story. I've typed an MSO wrong and it can be corrected but t takes alot of time and explaining if it's sold.

I think the question was: can you re-rig a few years later and make it a newer model year.

Yes, in that specific situation you are probably correct. But manufactures due change things if they mess up

If it was registered already, it's a felony in FLa.. If not, it is certainly still illegal, not to mention highly unethical... The tax boys will not take kindly to that amongst others..
