Default The old 36 in The Abbate Yard

Just a quick to inform all of you that i have been on the como lake area for businnes reason and i took the opportunity to have a look at the 36 that was laying on the Abbate Bruno yard...
I discovered that it is not there anymore...returning on the higway while i was passing by the lake a sight caught my eye....now it is used as an advertisement...

Well, it's been used for advertising since years actually, also when it was at Grandola yard. It's not much more than a piece of fiberglass, really.
Are you often in that area? I'm a regular around there...

Yes, i know that also in Grandola it was an advertise-boat, but seeing there laying on the shore.....i makes a strange effect...
I have been on a meeting in the lake maggiore, then took the opportunity to visit a friend near Tremezzo. I am in that area 3 - 4 times a year, but never caught the cigarette there, maybe my mistake..

I am moving to Bissone in July. My girlfriend is supposed to fly there on Wednesday if this volcano cloud clears up.I wondered if the old Cig was still around.

I guess it's Bissone you're talking about, but that's in Switzerland, along Lake Lugano - though not that far from Lake Como.
Anyway, you're welcome to PM me when you'll be around here.
Glad to arrange a ride on my boat on Como Lake, if you wish and if I'll be also around.
Same goes for MF or any other OSO member, of course...

Appreciate the offer for a boat ride on Como.Drove me crazy when i was there 2 years ago as we stayed on Lake Lugano in Bissone for two months and was not able to go out on a boat there.

My girlfriend is from Milan and moved to the United States 10 years ago. Recently she lost her job here in the states so we have decided to move to Milan for a couple of years to see how things go.
Her parents have a home in Bissone that they only use a couple months out of the year that we will live in until we get settled with jobs and such and than get a place in Milan.

Where abouts do you live ? Como ?

Wow, what an interesting reading.
I wasn't aware that there's such expertise on Italian racing boat history also here on OSO...
Nope, my lake home is not in Como but further north, actually less than a mile from where MF took that pic with the new home of the hull. Just PM me when you'll be here, and we'll arrange a ride for sure.

As an aside, I'm afraid I must tell you that also here in Italy at the moment finding a job is not easy, if that's your and/or your girlfriend idea.
But of course it also depends on what you have in mind. As you surely know having an Italian girlfriend, some lateral thinking and determination can go a long way in this beautiful Country.

All the best!

I hope someone still save that 'piece fiberglass'.
As I said several times it is a milestone in the history of the Cigarette and the Offshore racing sport.
Someone leaves destroy a Ferrari 312T F1 World Champion in the seventies?
Well that 36' so stupidly abandoned is like a Ferrari F1.
Drove by Balestrieri, De Angelis and Della Valle that Cigarette 36' hull # 01 is the record holder by victories for a offshore boat.
This record of 14 races wins in eleven years of racing it holds with the third Bonomi's Dry Martini of 1973 36' and that is now on sale in England.
