stepped hull dilema
#1
Last season I installed a thru hull depth and temp transducer on my twin stepped hull Donzi ,I put it about 3 feet ahead of the transom and aft of the second step by about 2-3 feet, problem being at speed ,or even anything above idle I lose signal ,my thought was move the transducer aft away from the step ,Someone today said I need to move it foward of the first step , Anybody done this with any success ???,What is the correct placement ? Thanks in advance Rich

Transducers just don't like the aerated water, apparently.
The way I've always looked at this is .......... That at any speed much above an idle you have in fact hit bottom just slightly before the depth sounder tells you that you might. After the fact the depth sounder reading combined with the mangled prop or missing lower serves to confirm the fact that you have indeed hit something.
Depth sounders on step bottom boats are likened in use to tits on a nun!
