Default 03 powerstroke overheats only when towing

My 03 f250 powerstroke runs perfect temp all the time till i tow something like a camper or my boat it then overheats clear up to hot and a red check guages lite come on. It just started last summer towing my boat i use a edge program on lowest setting but it has been on for 3 years, so i just changed the fan clutch and it did not help, coolant is full never loses any and clean as well. I still do not get the roar everyone else says they get from the fan clutch even with the new one. any help would be great.

Thanks

I'll bet it's the fan clutch. Cheap and fairly easy DIY repair.

My suggestion is to first flush your cooling system. Then install an electric fan in front of radiator if still overheating.

But, if you don't hear the "roar" of it engaging as the temp rises, it could be a bad one. That happened to me several years ago.......

Or, as someone else said, go with an electric fan.....

Most Edge tuners have a specific level for towing. On my Duramax, it's level 2. If you're on the lowest level, maybe you're running too lean......check your manual.

I had one with a bad water pump impeller. When towing it would slip on the shaft. There were no visible signs but pulled it and it was the problem.

That's what I was thinking too. I had the very same thing happen to me on mine last year. Drove the tech crazy for a couple days until he figured it out.

Keep in mind this just after the head gaskets and egr had just been done.
