Default Question about ignition module

I have a Gen V 502 EFI motor. I want to replace the ignition module in my distributor. Do I have to use Mercruiser parts or can I get one at an autoparts store?

Use a Merc part. Sierra may make one, but I would stick with Merc.

it is a gm distributor, if it reads GM on it just make sure you match it to the correct part number.

If you are planning on replacing it, there must be a problem. The last one i bought (mercury) was sealed. I think the old style has exposed connections, which was my problem.

I've had some issues with when my engine warms up.

When I idle for a while and then go to get up on plane she starts to sound like shes going to stall and then does.

I googled Ignition Module and saw a lot of ppl having the same symptoms as I am having and they are replacing the Ignition Modules and fixing the problems.

I'm going to pull mine out and run it down to autozone and let them check it out. Although I would think it needs to be hot for it to start acting up.

Ive been buying the AC delco for a 1995 Corvette,cap and rotor also.Mine is a 2001 500efi.

I have been having a prob with corrosion on the pick up coil plug, the 2 prong one.

Before you install the new module go to a western snowplow supplier and get a tube of their dielectric Greece,it has rust and corrosion inhibitors in it and will stop the corrosion..
