Just curious because the Myco's are mostly c-channel and won't hold the water. If washed and you keep up with any rust spots can you get away with using them in salt.

If I owned a nice pretty painted Myco I could not bear putting it salt.

Sell it and get an aluminum trailer is a good idea but sometimes good ideas are not the easiest things to get done..

Ok thanks, I am casually looking for a bigger/faster boat and a lot of them have steel painted trailers that why I asked.

i have a steel myco that i use in salt and have no problems with it,but u must wash and clean each time u dunk.the one thing about a steel is over the road it is much better than alu. trailer,and iv had lots of alu. trailers.i also keep it in a garage. its 6-years old and still looks new.trailer does not flex as much as alu. much more stable.

I also had good luck w/ my steel Myco. I do have a alum Myco now though.

The flex concern is valid when it comes to Aluminum bolt together I-beam trailers. They do flex.

However, the Aluminum welded C-channel trailers offered by Myco, Manning, and McClain as examples are not prone to the flex associated with bolt-together aluminum trailers.

And you CAN paint an aluminum trailer to look just as good as steel.

I would never consider a steel trailer, even if I lived on a fresh water lake in the middle of the country. You've got 3 general areas of boaters:
-West Coast
-Midwest
-East Coast
If you have a steel trailer under your boat, you immediately give 2/3s of the buying market an excuse to chew your boat/trailer package price down come resale, as they "need" and aluminum trailer. If you are a midwest boater with an affection toward steel trailers, that's a "want" and not a "need". Hence, the value of an aluminum trailer under a boat sold as a package is a little stronger than steel.

My c-channel steel trailer has been going in salt or brackish water for 15 years. You have to wash them off. Only problem area is where diamond plate pads are riveted on fenders for non-slip.

New fenders and sandblast and paint and it will go another ten.
