Default Updated Prop question

I have 2002 Baja 232 w/ 496 (375hp). Currently @ 26-hours on the engine. The boat came with a Mercury Marine Mirage Plus 23P 3 blade prop and I'm currently getting 67mph (gps) @ 4950rpm with a about 1.5-inches of forward movement left on the throttle. Drive completely trimmed out and just a very little tab, about even with bottom of boat. Manual says max rpm should be 4200 to 4800.
The existing prop is also great for water skiing.
The dealer (BAJA) will give me one chance to swap-out the prop for a bigger prop.
Was looking to try a bigger prop, maybe a 25 or 26 labbed, but was wondering if anybody knows of any place (if any) in the Philadelphia PA area I can go to try different props.

I learned today that Mercury Marine has a "demo prop" program. Go to their website, click products, props, then dealer locator... check off demo props and search.

Also, cpperformance will exchange props less a 25% restock fee within 30 days of purchase.

Bcoffield,

Those rpms are very high for that motor. Not that the motor can't or won't handle it, but it must be really close to the limiter.

Are you hitting the rev limiter? Did you verify your tachometer? It may be off.

I run on the Delaware from top (Trenton) to Bottom (C-D Canal).
Put in most of the time at Burlington City Public ramp.

Thank I love the colors too.

Thanks

The dealer let me use his portable tach for testing and the tach was dead on up to 2900 rpm. After that the tach stopped working, needs new battery. (I think)
4950rpm is the rev limiter. ?

I'm going to call trenton marine today to see if they have any demo prop I can try.

Cool!
Glad you verified it. Well that leaves only the prop. Go for it, see what more pitch will do!

I have a Mirage Plus 25 you could try. You pay the shipping back and forth. If you like it you could buy it for $275. It's a RH , solid hub , new and fits 15 spline shafts (Bravo/Alpha)
