Rod Bolts...

Why do rod bolts break? Only 3 hours on new power and look at the pile of junk I'm left with. Is this common? Is it just one of those things that happen with blower motors? The new builder said he saw no signs of excessive heat or oil problems.

Man, sorry about that carnage. Over torqueing the rod bolts can surely cause that problem.

from the looks i would say that was not from a rod bolt breaking,,looks like the rod gave out first then from what was left of the rod beating everything it could is when the rod bolts let go..how much boost? almost looks like that cylinder was hydro locked from too much fuel or water, pressure test the exhaust..
? what does the rod cap look like and the crank, any bluing on the journal?

5 lbs New builder said the tune looked perfect, Stainless marine manifolds are arent leaking. Water pressure was 15lbs. I dont have any pictures of the crank, but it wasn't to bad. I was told it could be polished and used, but I just ordered a new one anyway.

I did this once.....
O N C E......
Plastigauge and mixed two up. (6/8).....
It started screaming at about 3500 on the first pull.....too late.....
That rod was either meant for another hole, or it had NO oil...that cap is bluuuuuue
Sucks bad, I know. I think I'm having a bit more of an in-depth discussion with the builder.......
