Throttle/Shift control lever on my 1990 boat feels loose.
Took the little trim cover that holds the trim and trailer buttons, but i don't see anything. On the backside, I can feel it, but can\t see anything, without taking out some interior parts.
How do I tighten it??
I have read one post that sounds like this might be the answer?? (I'm 2 hours away from the boat, so can't try it yet)
"remove the button by shifting forward with button depressed and take a small screw driver to remove then spray some lube back there works sometimes if not remove control box and you'll see what needs to be lube
first step will be remove handle which is 9/16 nut behind button"

Does your controller look like this --> http://www.mercruiserparts.com/Show_...REMOTE+CONTROL

item #22 says 'friction'. I'd take a look into that.
Handle feels loose as in falling off, or doesn't stay in position?

Then to tighten the handle you need to push in item number 6, Go to WOT, Pry out button, Go back to neutral, Tighten item number 7 using a long 11/16 socket with an extension, tighten to 150 inch pounds or 12.5 foot pounds what ever smaller torque wrench you have should do. Then install the botton while still in neutral. Then test to ensure the button pops back out a few times.
If you don't go to WOT, You will break the button while prying it out, The button comes out pretty easy once you get a small bladed screw driver behind the button.

More like the second one
Mine, the handle where you grip is flat rectangualar, not as molded looking as the one in the diagram.
Looks like this one:

or this one:

I see the previous answer for a similar throttle control, but would really appreicate any input on my model.
Heading up this weekend, and would love to get it done.
Thanks in advance!
