Our Gov't is amazing.
lets steal $750 MILLION from the Ports import tax for "other crap" and then steal only $11mil from the "improvements for marine infrastructure" fund (breakwalls and boat ramps) and look like heros for only replacing 750 MIL with 11 MIL! All while hurting the marina's while they pretend to help.
Why not, they steal from Social Security, steal from the Lottery instead of using the money for schools, etc.

Just to dredge the DYC it is 1.1 Million. They will start mid march and work 60 days 20 hours a day. They will remove 28k cubic yards.
The biggest cost is whether the spoils are contaminated....in a marina most times they will be....then the cost is multiplied by 3 or 4.

Ran into a fellow contractor a while back who used to do a lot of dredging work. Says even though there is a ton to do, none of the marinas or associations have the money to do it, or worse hire the work and then don't pay. He basically is not doing much of it anymore for those reasons.

The Michigan DNR paper work I have says all dredging must be done by 4-15-2013. They may change that as So many permits need to be approved. We are trying to get our canal done { off the Salt River on Lake St Clair] only had 6 homes responded out of 100. Most must have wishful thinking that the water will just magically come up.

The article states they will be dredging 6 areas, Saginaw being one of the areas. I've boated the Bay City, Saginaw and Saginaw Bay area my whole life. (Grew up a block away from Wirt Sone Mix) What site in Saginaw would they be dredging? Saginaw being so far from the Bay you would think th that one of the many water starved marinas on the Saginaw Bay would be a much better choice. It would be nice to make a run to Au Gres for lunch but have not been in many years due to water level.
