Default Drive service question

What is done when you rebuild an XR drive (assuming the upper gear set is good)? What have you paid for this service? I am showing some silver slivers, the drive is 5 years old behind 600ft/lbs torque. Is this something I can do if I have not done it before?

If you have never worked on a drive or had someone teach you the specifics, then it is not something I'd recommend.
Chances are at 5 years old, the gear sets are going bad.

After 500 hours on XR gear sets. They will not be good.

The slivers is usually gear tooth surface material being torn away. Be thankful of the 500hrs you've enjoyed to date & allow someone w/ experience to rebuild them. I don't believe it's difficult but they require special tools as well as knowing how to shim & preload bearings etc.

I have a brand new Mercury XR upper gear set, if you are interested for $1475+ freight.

Regular price for XR upper gear set is normally almost $1,800.

Where did 500 hrs come from? Very low hrs....like 50. I'm trying to figure out the rebuild cost without gears. 5 years old.

No way to figure cost without tearing it down to see what it needs. Even with 50hrs, the gears could be chipping.
