Looking at buying a 1993 Baja 272 shooter-
Pros and cons?
What to look for? Baja's known stringer and transom issues?
Also anybody put big power in one of these boats?
Speed vs. Power?
Thanks Tom

I believe shooters were a tad bit lighter than normal 272. Only one bow hatch for the cabin. Should have 454 mag or 502 mag both carb those years I believe and anything less would be a little under powered. Look for low 60s mph. Obviously check stringers and transom. Fiberglass over gas tank usually balsa turns spongy over the years relatively easy fix.

I put a 1000 hp in a 272 which is essentially the same boat and it runs 99 and change, Smitty

Years ago I had a 95 Shooter with a 502 MAG EFI. A year or so later we turned the 502 into a 509 carb motor that was putting out around 575hp. The boat ran in the low to mid 70's, handled well and was built pretty decently. If I had kept the boat I would have added longer tabs and hydraulic steering. Good luck - always liked the look of the Shooter.
