Easy choice after pumping out thick varnish after sitting in the fuel tank for 21 years, I decided I wanted a lasting octane that would hold for at least 6 months.
Not saying AV fuel won't turn to varnish (21 years of any fuel except maybe bourban/whisky would not age gracefully) back then in '95 my Mistress was runnin
91 octane no ethenole .............on the other hand, couldn't imagine what 21 yrs. of ethanole fuel left alone in the tank would look and smell like!

I buy a lot of AV (100LL) fuel for my airplane, wouldn't use it in my boat though, it still has lead and might screw up a few sensors especially O2 sensors. Most piston aircraft engines are about the most basic old school engine around, sacrifice performance for reliability.

Have you tried http://www.pure-gas.org/ or another avenue to see if you can get non-ethanol?
I had a jet boat that had fiberglass tanks in it, and had to run 100LL in it's ZZ502 with a dual tunnel ram. The previous owner also ran AV gas. But it's kind of a PITA to deal with.
Perhaps getting 'pure gas' and treating with Sta-Bil would be worthwhile.

The smell off the exhaust was different than pump gas......av fuel burns complete. I'm pretty close to republic airport and unlike punta gorda where we needed clearance to fuel up here it's drive
in drive out.
