I get these brilliant ideas. And it turns out that everybody either figured it out already or it is stupid after all. You get a 12v scavenge pump. Makes about 30 psi. Feed it off oil cooler line. Put a check ball in block on oil galley fitting. Turn on key. Fire up scavenge pump. Watch oil pressure gauge climb to 30 psi. Start engine. What is wrong with this brilliant idea? Cost about 60 to 100 bucks.

I did the same basic thing when I set up my 496's. Many argue it's not necessary but I did it anyway. Our boating season is so short up here in the north I figured it certainly couldn't hurt anything and only help. I had switches for the dash to run pumps and then I never finished the project due to some other implications and started new project with new builds however plan to use same set up with the 548 SC's. Whether or it prolongs bearing life who knows but I personally like the idea of it. I always figured if an oil pump ever failed which is not likely you could always flip the electric pump on.

We use this and I am very happy with it. Simple system and less leak points with no added weight in the engine compartment.

That looks like a nice unit - don't think I've seen one before.
