Default Is it OK to support the motor by the oil pan?

My question is it OK to just stack 2x4's under the oil pan to hold the motor in place while I work on the motor mount or will it bend/break the pan?

If the answer is no what are your, suggestions on how (where) to support the motor while I sneak the new mount in? (I have a 502 EFI).

The boat uses a mount like shown below and I want to add a 4" x 7" 1/2" thick plate I had made under it to raise the mount. Currently the lower nut on the mount has to be raised all the way to top to align the motor correctly (raised so far that the top nut does not engage all the threads). The drive is off for rebuild and I want to address it now before it is installed (and aligned).

No, the wood that the part below is not rotted the mount has not moved, this is how the boat came from the factory....

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Default Oil pan support

I think you can support it by the pan. I transport mine in the back of my truck by sitting on the pan. Although the weight is even distributed across the entire bottom, I guess you should pay attention to how and where you place the wood but it shouldn’t be a problem.

Could you place a doubled up 2x6 across the hull and support that side of the motor you are working on with a strap?

The correct answer is no. Should be supported by bell housing and mounts

because you did it a few times and nothing happened doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.
