Hi all,
I'm hoping to retire in a few years and have been thinking about places to retire. Lived in NY all my life and would like to leave when I retire. The taxes, traffic and cost of living here are main reasons. Doing a lot of lurking here about different locations. Having been thinking seriously around the Lake Norman area. Can anyone recommend a nice area around the Lake? Mooresville? Any suggestions?
As of now I would prefer my own house with a 2 car garage (bigger is always better). I don't have to be right on the lake but depending on the house/location might work for me.
Was thinking 400ish.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

I just moved from that area, and I will say the Charlotte metro is awesome, BUT it’s growing like a weed. Mooresville is crowded, I would highly suggest looking a little south on lake Wylie, or even lake Murray.

outside the major cities so real estate is significantly lower. Big, quiet, clean lake.
Lake Murray last summer:

That does look beautiful. Is the lake usually that calm?

I live in Sarasota but I’m in Priest River/Sandpoint a lot for business and vacation.
I spent a little time in New Zealand several years ago and Sandpoint reminds me a lot of Queenstown. Absolutely beautiful landscape and no crowds. The north Idaho winters may have something to do with keeping the hoards in check. Here in Fl winterizing means occasionally wearing long pants, but I’ll end up out there at some point, at least most of the year.

we rent houses on VRBO for our summer trips. I would suggest doing something like that on a couple of the lakes your interested in. Spend a few days Or a week at each and see what area you like the best. Just a thought.
