I have been getting an on again off again error 1051-6 camshaft synchro error. Hasn’t effected anything except the intermittent beeping is driving us crazy. My motor is a 2004 serial number OW003051. I know from researching this mercury used a few diff sensors around this time. Is there anyone that can tell me if my particular motor has the latest sensor so I can order a new one? I found a guy on FB that sells previous versions of the sensor that will work without replacing all the things Merc wants replaced to work with the new one but am hoping i can swap out with the latest one.

Look at TC cover. Flat=early. Extended=late

You have the latest 2004 and newer sensor. I have a 2004 0W001299 and it is the newer sensor.

Tip: You can get a genuine AC Delco (GM) sensor for a 2004 and newer vehicle like a 3500 truck for much less $.
