Question Mercury Racing vs. Sterling, Zul, Eikert (sp?)

I'm not trying to start any trouble here, i'm just curious how Mercury Racing engines compair to other top builders? In reliability, build quality, fuel efficiency ect? The reason I'm asking is I talked to an engine builder who took apart a 575 Merc and he mention some of the internal part weren't as good as the ones he uses. Sorry I don't have any specifics. Again i'm not trying to start anything just curious what the experts out there think.

Thanks Kirk

THEY ARE PRODUCION PIECES...........THEY USE AVERAGE PIECES WHERE CUSTOM BUILDERS USE THE BEST PARTS.....ITS THAT SIMPLE IN MY OPINION

I heard they developed major problems with the blocks (Cracking issues?) and the charger / injection issue. Not to mention they couldn't produce them as easy as the 900. That's why they brought back the over priced 900SC...

Hey Slingshot ,
The old Class 1 Merc motors had Big Chief heads and LA billet cranks ... that isn't run of the mill stuff.
Don't get me wrong I'm not defended Merc I think it is a joke how much they charge for their stuff.
I would much rather go to Sterling or Eickert if I had the money , unfortunatley I don't so I build it myself.

That's just really strange. I heard something similar to the block stuff, but wonder why that would pop up and why they couldn't overcome it. Really, how much difference was there from the 900sc, blockwise, or the 800sc (572). I wonder if it is dead for good?
