Where can I get a decent laser temperature sensor?

Anyone have any history with a specific brand?

Funny.....I was just now trying to get the same information....I know you can get a cheapo from Radio Shack for $30 and you can get a Stanley for $100.

I would like to know as well if price does matter on one of these units??? Which brand is good for the money??

Raytec makes a 100$ unit. I use one at work, works well!! Talk to any tool men they all stock 'em.

I keep a Radio Shack unit on the boat. Had to do some quick comparison checking last week and gave me piece of mind that it was a gauge problem and not the motor.

Keep in mind your not trying to compare temps in some nuclear fusion experiment if you just need to be close then save the $ and buy the Radio Shack unit.

I have also compared it with room thermometers and it has been right on with them.

I bought my Raytec from WW Grainger, basic model was around $90.00 if my memory serves be right. I have had it a couple of years now and it is the best money I have spent.

They have a thousand uses, but I mainly use mine to check tire and hub temperatures on the trucl and boat trailer when I trailer long distances.

There is no better way to tell if a tire is fixing to go on you.

Are you seeing that your back hubs are running hotter that the other ones. My front & back axle both have brakes & the rear axle is running about 10-20 degrees warmer.

The RS one works fine, just doesn't have the laser in it. I use one all the time and it is very accurate. Remember too that most times you are doing relative temps on a boat so it is fine.

The lasers the fun part! I have a raytec, lately the wife uses it to check oven temps.

I got the small Raytech at Napa last year for $60. The laser is nothing but a pointer to let you know exactly where your getting the reading from. Shiny surfaces will give you erratic readings.
