Last parts to buy for my new T-540's are the intake manfiolds and carbs. I've got a pair of Edelbock Performers, but it looks like a single plane would be advantageous above 3500 rpm.
540 ci, 9:1, AFR 315 CNC, Crane 741, 9500# boat with TRS. Rev limiter set to 5500.
Didn't the 540 Bulldog come with a Dart Single Plane?

Get good single planes. I had single planes on my motors and changed them to Performer RPM's on a recommendation they would give better mid range. I saw no imporvement in mid/cruise, and subjectively think the single planes actually ran better (don't have any hard RPM numbers). If I had a reason to remove the intakes I'd go back to single planes.

I had a single plans switched to dual plane Edelbrocks and love them! I've been told The single planes dont help until you run over 6000.

My 741 cammed 540 made 580hp with a Performer single plane. If I recall, it was over 100 in the dyno cell with a super high humidity. The heads were a Winters design that was fully ported. The carb is a 850.

Edelbrock Airgap makes great power.

I have Merlin single plane on my 540's as per Teague's recomendation in a recent Powerboat mag. They seem to work very well. I don't need any more torque at low rpms. The boat planes at about 1/4 throttle and accelerates very well. Hard acceleration from low speed is just going to blow up Bravos, so I avoid it. Maybe a dual plane will get you better gas milage at 3000.
